Ahmedabad:

The Gujarat High Court today stayed the trial court proceedings against six associates of Narayan Sai, the son of godman Asaram, in a rape case against him.

Justice A J Desai said in the order “the matter is adjourned to 27 March 2015. Till then, the concerned trial court shall not proceed further with the case against the present applicants.”

The High Court granted this interim relief after the public prosecutor made a request for adjournment.

The court was hearing petitions of Vasudev Chawla, Krishnakaladhari Sharma, Saurav alias Puchi Rajendrakumar Menro, Darshanlal Devda, Deepit Sharma and Amit Sharma— named in the charge sheet for helping Narayan Sai and providing him shelter when he was absconding. They are also accused of providing him a car, cell phones, etc.

They have sought quashing of proceedings against them.

Sai, who had been absconding for 58 days after a rape case was filed against him, was arrested on December 3, 2013, by the Delhi Police from Delhi-Haryana border.

A Surat-based woman has filed a rape complaint against Sai, while her elder sister has filed similar complaint against Asaram.
