Gujarat, Himachal Election Results 2017: Here is what leaders say on BJP’s win

New Delhi:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeat Congress in a battle of Titans between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

Hours before Election Commission announced the final results for both states the Congress president accepted the loss and expressed gratitude to the people of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh for the love they showered on him.

Similarly, PM Narendra Modi too thanked voters of both states. But, accused the Congress of trying to sow the seeds of casteism in Gujarat in its "hunger for power", asserting that the BJP's win in the Assembly elections had underlined the people's acceptance of his government's reforms.

Here is what leaders say on win

PM Narendra Modi: The Congress might be visible on the ground but there were many forces at work beside it. In their hunger for power, some people tried to sow the seeds of casteism in the last few months for the elections. The people rejected it, sorts of conspiracies were hatched.

BJP Chief Amit Shah: The party's victory in the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly polls is the win of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's development agenda against the politics of casteism and appeasement.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi:  The Congress party accepts the verdict of the people and congratulates the new governments in both states. I thank the people of Gujarat and Himachal with all my heart for the love they showed me.

Information and Broadcasting and Textiles Minister Smriti Irani: Jo jeeta wohi sikandar. It is victory of every (BJP) booth worker's hard work and the people who trusted development. It is a matter of happiness for us. This is the victory of development.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor:  Congress accepts verdict of people and congratulates the new governments in both states. I thank the people of Gujarat and Himachal with all my heart for love they showed me.

I think it's clear in Gujarat: the BJP has won but the Congress has not lost.

Patidar leader Hardik Patel: Hardik did not lose, unemployment is lost, education is defeated. Every issue related to the people is lost. A hope is lost. The people of Gujarat are losing, EVM's Harmony has won

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath: Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh results are a lesson to those who forget political courtesy and indulge in unparliamentary language. Those raising question mark on the Prime Minister will now have to accept his leadership. We, on behalf of the people of UP congratulate Modiji and Amit Shahji. It's victory of economic reforms. Modi's leadership has established country economically. Those who raised questions on Gujarat model should now look at the results. It's victory of policies of Modiji.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav: The outcome of the Gujarat Assembly election had exposed the hollowness of the model of development in that state. It (Gujarat development model) is a fraud on the people and aimed at misleading the voters. BJP was expecting 150 seats but the resultshave proved that the people of that state did not endorse the Gujarat model of development though the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister: The poll outcome is also a big slap on those who mocked demonetisation and GST by terming the latter as "Gabbar Singh Tax”.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti:  These results are an endorsement of his government's governance, developmental and economic agenda.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu: Congratulations BJP on winning the elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Wishing them all the best for their forthcoming tenure in governance.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari: All sections of society have voted above caste politics. This is a win of development politics of the Prime Minister. In Gujarat, OBC, patidar, dalit all were used for caste politics by the Congress but caste politics could not get success.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar: Congratulations to honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party for the victory in the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. The Congress, which had claimed it would wrest power from the BJP in Gujarat, has ended up losing even Himachal Pradesh.

CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy: Narendra Modi may become more dictatorial. It is not a positive sign for Indian democracy. Anti-BJP forces should come together to fight against communal forces.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee: I congratulate Gujarat voters for their very balanced verdict at this hour. It is a temporary and face-saving win, but it shows a moral defeat for BJP.  Gujarat voted against atrocities, anxiety and injustice caused to the common people. Gujarat belled the cat for 2019

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah: The election results of one state will not have an effect on the election of another state. The issues will be different. Whatever may the Gujarat poll results be, it will have no impact on Karnataka. I am sure that in 2018, we will come back to power hundred per cent.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar: Opening innings zero. The assembly election results, which are in favour of the BJP, are also an indication of the outcome of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and formation of the next government at the Centre.

Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) has his magic. The prime minister is pushing the party ahead. He is one leader who has higher popularity than the party.
