It’s been a devastating site for nature lovers on the Puri beach as more than hundred jeopardised Olive Ridley Turtles and bottlenose dolphines were found dead near have found dead on the beach near Pantha Niwas in between Digabarini and Chakratirtha Road.

According to the state officials, the turtles came to the Devi and Rushikulya rivers for annual nesting. Officials suspecting, illegal trawler operation in the restricted area is behind the deaths of the turtle.

The carcasses of the dead turtles have been sent for post-mortem to find out the truth behind the mass death.

Earlier, the state government has restricted fishing in the 20 km distance from the beach, where the turtle arrive for nesting.  The police have held two illegal trawlers from the area.  

Every year, Olive Ridley Turtles swim across the Indian ocean to lay eggs on the beach of Devi and Rushikulya river beds.
