New Delhi:

The Interpol on Wednesday issued a Blue Corner notice against self-styled godman Nithyananda, who fled India last year after a rape case was registered against him in Karnataka. The notice to locate Nithyananda was issued on the request of Gujarat police. A blue-corner notice makes it compulsory for countries to share information on any person involved in a crime.

The state police revealed the move in a charge sheet filed in a local court in connection with an FIR lodged against Nithyananda in November last year, after two girls went missing from his ashram.

"The Interpol issued the Blue Corner notice against the controversial godman this month," news agency PTI quotes Deputy Superintendent of Police K T Kamariya as saying.

Earlier, Nithyananda, who was booked in a criminal case related to his Ahmedabad ashram, had fled the country.

The Gujarat High Court had issued notices againt him on a plea filed by a man seeking custody of his two daughters "detained" at his Ahmedabad ashram.
