New Delhi:

Congress on Monday dismissed speculation that Priyanka Gandhi will campaign only in Amethi and Raebareli and charged the BJP with spreading disinformation on the issue.

Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken charged the BJP with spreading disinformation on the issue to divert the attention of the people from the temple tragedy in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday that left 115 dead.

"Over 100 people have died in the tragedy. The whole country is looking at the Madhya Pradesh government which could not even provide police arrangement at the place. It (news about Priyanka Gandhi) is attempt by some people to divert attention from the issue and to hide MP Government's failure," he said.

"Congress party strongly condemns people and news channels who are doing this," Maken said when asked to comment on the issue.

Meanwhile, asked to comment on Priyanka Gandhi's possibility of campaigning against Narendra Modi and in other parts of the country, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said,

"Everybody in Congress must campaign to ensure that UPA II's positive things are told to people."

Priyanka has campaigned for the party in Amethi and Raebareli till now. Amethi is the constituency of her brother Rahul Gandhi, while Raebareli is of her mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

The 40-year-old will be campaigning all over the country for the first time.

Priyanka has been Congress’s star campaigner in Amethi and Rae Bareli and she has said in the past that she was not at all interested in making an entry into politics.
