Jain Monk Tarun Sagar on Saturday breathed his last at Radhapuri Jain temple in Delhi. He was 51. Tarun Sagar was suffering from prolonged illness and was admitted to a private hospital in August. According to reports, Tarun Sagar decided to not take any medicine for the last few days and opted for ‘Santhara’ – the Jain practice of fast till death.

The Jain muni was massively popular among his sermons which were named ‘kadve pravachan’ as they contradicted common views and regular practices.

His last rites will take place at Tarunsagaram, Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh later on Saturday.

Here are 5 things about Jain Muni Tarun Sagar:

  1. Muni Tarun Sagar was initially born as Pawan Kumar Jain on June 26, 1967, in Guhanchi village in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh.
  2. He was initiated as a Digambara monk by Acharya Pushpdant Sagar in Rajasthan at the age of 20.
  3. Due to his ailing health during his travels, he started using ‘doli’ for conveyance in 2007 rather than the usual practice of walking on foot.
  4. After being invited to an RSS event in Nagpur in September 2009, Jain Muni Tarun Sagar said that using leather belts in dresses did not reflect non-violence. RSS, eventually replaced the leather belts in the dress with canvas ones.
  5. Muni Tarun Sagar was vocal about Islamic traditions. The Jain monk once said that Love Jihad is a severe conspiracy to convert Hindu girls into Muslims and had also raised his voice against the Islamic practice of Triple Talaq.
