Jamia Students Not Alone In This Fight: VC Najma Akhtar In A Solidarity Message

The Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Milia Islamia on Monday in a video message said she stands in support of the students after the prestigious Central University, became the epicentre of Delhi Police’s brutal crackdown against Citizenship Act protesters on Sunday. Over 50 students were detained after police entered Jamia without permission from university officials. Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar said, "I am hurt by the way my students were treated. I want to let my students know that they are not alone in this fight. I am with them. Jharkhand Assembly Elections: Fourth Phase Polling Begins, 221 Candidates In Fray

Polling for the fourth phase of the five-phased Jharkhand Assembly election began in 15 constituencies on Monday. The voting began at 7 am, Election Commission (EC) officials said. It will conclude at 3 pm at Jamua, Bagodar, Giridih, Dumri and Tundi, while for the rest of the seats, the voting will continue till 5 pm, they added. A total of 221 candidates, including 23 women nominees, are in the fray in the elections, Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer Vinay Kumar Choubey said. The highest number of 25 candidates will lock horns in the Bokaro seat while the least number of eight nominees will contest the Nirsa constituency, he said. Read here…

Bangladesh Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen on Sunday said his country has requested India to provide a list of any Bangladesh nationals living illegally in the country and it will allow them to return. Responding to a question on India’s National Register of Citizenship (NRC), Momen, who cancelled his visit to India on Thursday citing his busy schedule, said Bangladesh-India relations are normal and “very sweet” and they will not be affected.
