Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Chief Arshad Madani Urges Sonia Gandhi Not To Support Shiv Sena In Maharashtra

New Delhi:

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Arshad Madani on Monday wrote to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, urging her not to support Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. In his letter, Madani cautioned Sonia Gandhi, saying that supporting the Shiv Sena, a party that follows the ideology of Hindutva, will be a dangerous step for the Congress. "It's really unfortunate that you are considering to support Shiv Sena. It will be a very dangerous and harmful step for the Congress party," said the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind president.

The letter from Madani came amid a meeting between Sonia Gandhi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar in Delhi where the two leaders are likely to take a final call on supporting the Sena for government formation in Maharashtra. While the Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena has drafted a common minimum program to form the government in the state, Sonia Gandhi is wary of the decision to support a party that is poles apart in ideology.

As per the agreement reached by the three non-BJP parties in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena will get a full-term chief minister while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress will get one deputy chief minister each in the next government. The Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress will get 16, 14, and 12 Cabinet births, respectively.

The draft has been finalised after several consultation over last two days. According to sources, unemployment, farm loan waiver, increasing MSP, crop insurance scheme, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and BR Ambedkar memorial are some of the things that featured in the ‘common minimum program’ of these three parties.

Meanwhile, the BJP has also not given up the idea to form its own government yet and soon after the announcement of a common minimum program by the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that anythign can happen in cricket and politics.

"Anything can happen in cricket and politics. Sometimes you feel you are losing the match, but the result is exactly the opposite. Also, I have just arrived from Delhi, I don't know the detailed politics of Maharashtra," Gadkari said.
