Army foils infiltration bid in Kupwara, three militants killed

New Delhi:

The Army on Sunday foiled massive infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district and gunned down six militants who were trying to sneak into the Indian side of the border.

“An infiltration bid has been eliminated along the LoC in Karen Sector (Kupwara district),” PTI quoted a defence spokesperson as saying.

The spokesperson said that six militants were killed in the ensuing gunfight and a search operation was underway to completely sanitise the area.

This was the second failed infiltration bid by militants in Kashmir in less than a week. Earlier on June 6, Army killed three militants trying to cross the border in Macchil sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The infiltration bids came amid the intelligence reports of terrorist organisations planning an attack on the annual Amarnath Yatra starting from June 28.

The intelligence agencies have received inputs that Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) leadership in Shopian was planning to attack security forces deployed in the security of the pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra.
