A policeman has been killed while three security forces personnel were injured in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Batamaloo area of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, the police said.
"On a specific information about presence of terrorists in a hideout, an operation was launched in Batmaloo Srinagar leading to exchange of fire, one SOG boy martyred, one JKP & 2 CRPF Jawans sustained injuries, operation continues," Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid wrote on Twitter.

The Jammu and Kashmir state police head did not share any further details.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants in Diyarwani in Batamaloo area, the security forces launched a search operation on Sunday morning, a police official said.

Following retaliation fire by the terrorists, the search operation turned into an encounter.

However, the gunfight was still on, the official said.
Meanwhile, the mobile internet services have been cut off in the city, the official said, adding that more details regarding the operation is awaited.
