New Delhi:
Tribal women of Chakulia village, around 50 kilometers from Jharkhand’s steel city Jamshedpur, tied rakhi to Sal trees in a nearby forest and took pledge not to allow anyone cut down forest trees on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Monday.
The women dressed in tribal attire showered trees with water, applied chandan and vermillion and then tied rakhis as per Hindu traditions.
The tribal womens sang songs in tribal language and pledged to save the trees from mass cutting.
Jamuna Tuddu also known as Tarzan Woman of India and founder member of Kolhan Van Sanrakshan had organised the event.
Talking to media she said, “Forests play a vital role in our life.”
The Tarzan Woman also added that, “People these days have forgotten the importance of trees in our daily life.”
Another tribal girl who identified as Janki Munda said, “People are mercilessly cutting down forest trees. We have to check this otherwise there will be no forests left.”
She added that forests not only help in controlling the ecosystem but are also house to 1000 of species of animals.
“The trees self-motto purify the air, provide woods for our kitchens. But we humans are aimlessly cutting down the trees. So on the occasion of Rakhi we have taken the pledge to save our forests,” added Munda.
