Delhi:

Singing the NaMo tune, famous Sufi singer and BJP lawmaker Hans Raj Hans wants a name change for the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University to none other than current Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During an interaction on abrogation of Article 370 that granted special powers to Jammu and Kashmir, Hans raj Hans reportedly said that JNU’s name should be changed to MNU! "Dua karo sab aman se rahein, bomb na chale...Hamare buzurgon ne galatiyan ki hain hum bhugat rahe hain...Main kehta hoon iska naam MNU kar do, Modi ji ke naam pe bhi to kuch hona chahiye...( Let’s hope and pray that everything stays peaceful. We are paying for the mistakes of our ancestors. I suggest we name it (JNU) MNU. There should be something under Modi’s name too).”

Founded in 1969, the Jawaharlal Nehru University was named after India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Hailing his government's decision to revoke Article 370 of Indian Constitution, that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that it was a step towards realising the dream of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Emphasising that a new approach was needed to deal with Kashmir, PM Modi said that his government ‘neither nurse problems nor keep them pending’.

"In this short span of time, we have taken important steps in every sector. Article 370 and 35A being revoked from Jammu and Kashmir is a step towards realising the dream of Sardar Patel," the prime minister said while addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 73rd Independence Day.

He said the work which was pending for the last 70 years was accomplished in less than 70 days under his government. PM Modi said everyone wanted Article 370 to be scrapped, but they were waiting for the appropriate time.

“Why did those who are supporting Article 370 make it a permanent provision for J and K and kept it a temporary measure,” he questioned.

Hans Raj Hans had won the North West Delhi seat with record margin during the last Lok Sabha Elections. The singer-turned-politician got third time lucky in his political career. Hans made his political debut with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and contested the Lok Sabha elections from Jalandhar in 2009, but faced defeat.

He later shifted his allegiance to Congress but quit the party after his name was dropped at the eleventh hour in favour of former Punjab Congress chief Shamsher Singh Dullo for Rajya Sabha.

The Padma Shree awardee, who loves to be known as a Sufi and a 'fakir', emerged as a surprise candidate on the North West Delhi seat, dislodging sitting BJP MP Udit Raj as official party candidate, forcing the latter to rebel and join the Congress.
