New Delhi:

A probe panel has given a clean chit to former JNU student union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who faced sedition charges in connection with an event held at the campus on February 9 last year, according to reports.

The draft chargesheet filed in the case reportedly shared by sources has brought this development to fore, according to a report in a leading English Daily.

However, the chargesheet has indicted two other JNU students – Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, the report said. Police reportedly say that Khalid had got posters made for the event to show solidarity with Afzal Guru.

Forensic reports of around 40 video clips have been cited by the chargesheet that prove that anti-India slogans were raised at JNU on February 9, said the report.

The cops have now left it to the court to decide if the charges are to be framed against Kanhaiya, the report said quoting sources.

The chargesheet doesn’t mention anywhere that Kanhaiya raised anti-India slogans that day but does say he did nothing to stop them or the event, the report said.

The chargesheet (to be filed under section 121 A) is now awaiting a final nod for submission from the police commissioner, said the report.

The officials investigating the case have identified 9 ‘outsiders’ belonging to Kashmir. Some belong to other universities and a few are working professionals and have been accused of raising `antiIndian slogans'.

“Though videos showed 140-odd protesters, `nine' were identified," said a source. Their statements were recorded after assuring them that no legal action will be taken.
