Delhi:

Vikram Singh Saini, the BJP lawmaker from Muzaffarnagar’s Khatauli, is in news again. Known for his misogynistic statements, Saini hit the headlines again, this time for his shocker on Article 370’s abrogation. A video has surfaced online, in which Saini is seen making misogynistic statements on Kashmiri girls. At an event to ‘celebrate’ the BJP’s success over Article 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir, Saini reportedly exhorted the young, unmarried men to go to the Valley and marry ‘fair’ Kashmiri girls.

“Karyakarta bahut utsuk hai aur jo kunwaare hai, unki shaadi wahi karva denge, koi dikkat nahi hai. Kya dikkat hai? Pehle wahaan mahilaon par kitna atyachar tha. Wahaan ki ladki agar kisi Uttar Pradesh ke chorey se shaadi kar le, toh uski nagrikta khatam. Bharat ki nagrikta alag, Kashmir ki alag… Aur jo Muslim karyakarta hai yahaan par, unko khushi manani chahiye… Shaadi wahaan karo na, Kashmiri gori ladki se. Khushi manani chahiye. Poore chahe Hindu, Musalman koi ho. Yeh poore desh ke liye utsah ka vishay hai (The workers are very excited and those who are unmarried can get married there. Earlier, there was lot of atrocities on women. If a woman from Kashmir got married to a man from UP, her citizenship would be revoked. There was different citizenship for India and Kashmir),” Saini reportedly said.

Saini remained unapologetic about his statement. According to an IANS report, Saini remained unrepentant and said “Now anyone can get married to a Kashmiri girl without any issue. That is all I said and it is the truth.”

On Tuesday, the resolution scrapping Article 370 of the Constitution which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir was passed in the Lok Sabha by division of votes with 351 members in support and 72 against it. One member abstained from voting. The House also cleared the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019, by 370 "AYES" and 70 "NO" on Tuesday. The J-K Reorganisation Bill seeks to bifurcate the state into two Union Territories (UTs) of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Parliament also approved another bill to extend 10 per cent reservation to economically weaker sections in Jammu and Kashmir. The notification also made it clear that all the provisions of the Constitution as amended from time to time, shall apply in relation to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and the exceptions and modifications subject to which they shall so apply.
