In yet another daring and courageous attempt by Indian Navy, a 25-year-old woman was rescued from the flooded rooftop of her house in Ernakulum district of rain-battered Kerala. An Indian Navy chopper, also comprising a team of doctor reached the spot and examined her condition before Sajita Jabeel (25) was airlifted and rushed to Sanjivani multi-speciality hospital in Alappuzha.

Taking to Twitter, Indian Navy put on a video of the daring operation, where the pregnant lady wearing a harness is seen being airlifted into the chopper.

"A pregnant lady with water bag leaking has been airlifted and evacuated to Sanjivani.  Doctor was lowered to assess the lady. Operation successful," Spokesperson Navy wrote in the tweet.

In the view of this emergency situation in Kerala, NDRF teams have been deployed in strength in flood-hit Kerala. Over 4,000 people have been shifted to safer places till Friday evening. As many as 339 motorised boats, 2,800 life jackets, 1,400 lifebuoys, 27 light towers and 1,000 raincoats were also provided by the Central government.

Around 1,00,000 food packets have been distributed and arrangements are being made to supply another 1,00,000 food packets. Provision has been made for the supply of milk powder as well.

The railways have provided 1,20,000 water bottles. Another 1,20,000 bottles are ready to be despatched. It is also running a special train carrying 2.9 lakh litres of drinking water that will reach Kayamkulam on Saturday.

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has also announced an immediate relief of Rs 10 crore for the flood-ravaged Kerala. People plunged deeper into misery with hospitals facing a shortage of oxygen and fuel stations running dry ever since the second spell of monsoon wreak havoc in the southern state.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Kerala this evening to take stock of the situation and he has also spoken with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan regarding the same.

Torrential rain and floods have played havoc in Kerala, claiming the lives of nearly 173 people in the southern state so far.
