Smoke billowed in the air and mobs roamed unchecked through the streets, burning shops, pelting stones and threatening locals, as fresh violence tore through northeast Delhi, killing six more people on Tuesday and taking the toll in the communal clashes over the amended citizenship law to 11.

As tension smouldered in the national capital's northeast and the sun set over another restive day, violence cut a swathe through several localities, including Chand Bagh and Bhajanpura, with stones and other missiles hurled and shops set ablaze.

Rioters damaged two fire tenders in Gokulpuri and crowds raising incendiary slogans set on fire fruit carts, rickshaws and anything that came in their way in the epicentre of the trouble Maujpur and other places.

"Children are not getting milk and other food items. Request every one to stay calm. Even the police have the right to live," says Rajesh Gupta, AAP MLA.

"I pay homage to Ratan Lal ji. It's unfortunate that we lost a brave cop. I request people to maintain peace and harmony," says Rajesh Gupta, AAP MLA. 

"We all have a responsibility to maintain peace in our society. It's not about a religion. I pay tribute to the Delhi Police head constable Ratan Lal who died in the violence yesterday," says Acharya Vikramaditya.

"The Delhi Police should take action against all anti-social elements," says Sushil Pandit, Kashmiri activist.

"We have a foreign guest from the US in our country. We should maintain calm. I can assure you that the Delhi Police is unbaised and works honestly," says Ved Bhusan, ACP Delhi (Rtd).

"We all should come together and maintain peace and harmony in the country. Only dialogues can resolve problems," says Mudasir Hayat, Shaheen Bagh activist.

"We request people not to spread rumours of any kind. The Police should not let people go outside their homes at the moment," says Irshad Alam, Congress leader. 

"I pay tribute to the head constable killed in the violence. We should not indulge in violence of any kind. Requesting people to verify your contents before forwarding them on WhatsApp and social media," says Naveen Kumar, BJP spokesperson.
