KIWEFF-II 2016: To screen over 100 films on enviroment

In the second edition of Kolkata International Wildlife and Environment Film Festival (KIWEFF) over 100 of films on environment and nature will be screened across eight locations in Kolkata.

"Last year we had received 561 films from 75 countries.This year we want to show more films with subjects related to nature, wildlife and environment," festival director Aditya Lal Mukherjee said. The three-day fest will begin from December 2.

Mukherjee said youngsters and students want to see films related to the majestic tiger, but they will showcasefilms of all creatures starting from crow to ant. This year they will be paying tributes to environment film maker Navin Raheja and the late Fateh Singh Rathore, India's best known tiger conservationist.

From 2017 the festival will travel to other cities also, like Nagpur. "We will show films to communities living near tiger reserves and tiger corridors in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra," Mukherjee said. Former cricketer Sourav Ganguly has joined the organisation in 'Chief Supportive Role' while politician-actress and animal lover Debashree Roy will be theface of the festival.

With a creation of green brigade, they are also aimingto plant ten lakh saplings every year. The festival will have six categories this year -feature film, short film, animation film, documentaries,public service announcements and a students category film.
