Delhi:

A young lady constable has been suspended for making a TikTok dance video inside a police station in Gujarat’s Mehsana. The officials said that the lady cop identified as one Arpita Chaudhary has been suspended for ‘violating rules.’ “Arpita Chaudhary has violated the rules. She was not in uniform while on duty. Secondly, she shot a video of herself inside the Langhnaj village police station. Police personnel should follow discipline, which she has not done and hence suspended," Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjitha Vanzara was quoted as saying by the PTI. Chaudhary was recruited to the police's Lok Rakshak Dal in 2016. She was transferred to Mehasana in 2018, the deputy superintendent said.

Dressed in smart light salmon pink shirt and jeans, Chaudhary made the video dancing to a song from Salman Khan-satrrer ‘Kick’. On TikTok, Chaudhary goes by the name @anna_queen_2117. She has around 14,000 followers. After the action by her seniors, Chaudhary has deleted the video that she made on June 20.

TikTok, which was launched in 2019, is a social video app owned by China's Beijing ByteDance Co. It reached the one billion download mark in February. It is a popular app worldwide and was the fourth most downloaded non-game app in 2018.

Last week, the Narendra Modi government issued notices to social media platforms Tiktok and Helo along with a set of 21 questions threatening to ban these apps if it does not receive appropriate response, official sources said. The action from Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity) follows complaint by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) to the Prime Minister, in which it alleged that the platforms are being used for anti-national activities.

When contacted, Tiktok and Helo in a joint statement said they have plans to invest $1 billion over the period of next three years to develop technology infrastructure and owns responsibility of local community.

TikTok, which has 200 million users in India, was hitting headlines in April this year, when the Madurai bench of Madras High Court had directed the government to ban the mobile application, as it voiced concerns over the "pornographic and inappropriate contents" being made available through such apps. However, the ban was lifted by the Madras High Court three weeks later.

The mobile application, which was launched in early 2019, is a social video app owned by China's Beijing ByteDance Co. It reached the one billion download mark in February. It is a popular app worldwide and was the fourth most downloaded non-game app in 2018.
