Patna:

The visual of a former RJD legislator helping party president Lalu Prasad to wear shoes at a function in Bihar’s East Champaran district has triggered a controversy, but the RJD leader said he merely “tightened” the lace of the shoe he was wearing to save time.

The visual, aired on some private tv channels, showed former RJD MLC Anwar Ahmad bending and helping Prasad wear shoes at a function at Jasaulia Jamunia village in East Champaran district yesterday, where the RJD chief unveiled a statue of an ex-legislator Yamuna Yadav.

As the visual went viral, Ahmad called it an “unnecessary controversy” created by the media.

He narrated the incident to PTI today that he and Prasad were climbing down through stairs after unveiling of the statue and he was behind Prasad and had managed to wear shoes but a staff of the RJD chief was finding it hard to tie the knot of his shoe due to the presence of a large crowd.

“I shouted at him to make way and tied the knot quickly to save time as we had to catch up with the next programme,” Ahmad said.

The RJD leader laughed at the report that Prasad’s shoes were stolen and hence he had to lend him his own shoes.

“My shoe size is 8 while Lalu Prasad’s is 7 so how can he wear my shoes?” he said.

The former RJD MLC said Prasad even did not tell him to tie his shoelace and he did it on his own to save time.
