Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni with Indian cueist Pankaj Advani have been awarded the Padma Bhushan on Monday.
Dhoni received the Padma Bhushan which is country’s third highest civilian award on the same day (April 2) as the wicket-keeper batsman-led team India lifted the World Cup at Wankhede Stadium in 2011.
The now 36-year-old then finished the game with a gigantic six to help India lift the most celebrated trophy in Cricket after a long wait of 28 years.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday, hosted a dinner for 41 personalities, who have been honoured with the Padma awards. Dhoni and Advani were honoured by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The function is attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and his ministerial colleagues.
84th Padma awards were announced earlier this year and the list comprises three Padma Vibhushan, nine Padma Bhushan and 72 Padma Shri awards.
Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri are announced every year on Republic Day. These are awarded to people of different fields such as art, literature, education, sports, medicine, social work, science, public affairs, etc.
