Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses Parliament

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the Parliament in a note of thanks to President Ram Nath Kovind, who addressed a joint session of both the Houses last week. PM Modi replied to the President's address and issues raised by him. PM Modi's speech set the agenda for the government in the coming months. Although the address was mere formality, PM Modi's speech was followed widely.

During his address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack against the Congress party and said that those who were in power from 2004 to 2014 ever talk about the good work of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, they did not even talked about their own partymen like Narasimha Rao, Manmohan Singh Ji. Slamming the party for dynasty politics, PM Modi said that the Congress never thought beyond one family, even the Bharat Ratna to Pranab Mukherjee was given by our government.

On the issue of Triple Talaq Bill, PM Modi urged Congress to support the bill. "Congress missed opportunities with uniform civil code and Shah Bano case, today again there is an opportunity, we have brought a bill for women empowerment, please do not link it to religion," PM Modi said.

On Monday, speaking on the floor of the House, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury mocked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and compared PM Modi to ‘gandi naali’. He said that the saffron party won general elections because PM Modi was a ‘very big salesman’ and the Congress couldn’t gain grounds as it could not market its products. The Prime Minister was present in the House when Chowdhury made these comments.

Chowdhury also dared the Modi government to arrest ‘thieves’ Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi in scams like 2G, Coal scam. “Did you manage to catch anybody in 2G and coal allocation scams? Did you manage to send Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi behind the bars? You came to power by calling them ‘thieves’. Then, how are they sitting in the Parliament,” he said.
