New Delhi:
Maharashtra wildlife department on Tuesday has issued orders to shoot a tigress that has been accused of eating at least 10 people in the last one in year in the state’s Yavatmal district.
According to wildlife officials, the tigress has terrorized people staying near Pandharkawada town in Yavatmal district in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh Villages areas sharing the border with the district.
The shooting order of the man-eater tigress was issued by issue was Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) A.K. Misra after a meeting of senior officer of the wildlife department and National Tiger Conservation Authority
As is the case with such shooting orders, field staff have been directed to tranquilize or use other methods first to stop the tigress.
The order comes in the face of massive public pressure to kill the tigress.

According to a forest department official, they came to the conclusion that a tigress was behind the killings after examination of hair samples, cellular samples and forensic samples. The area has presence of two other tigers in the region.
