Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday greeted people on the occasion of Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. Taking to Twitter, Modi wished that the blessings of Lord Krishna may bring happiness in their lives.
"Janmashtami greetings to everyone! May the blessings of Bhagwan Shri Krishna always bring happiness and good health in our lives. Jai Shri Krishna!" the prime minister, who is in Abu Dhabi, tweeted both in Hindi and English.

Modi is in UAE to discuss bilateral and regional issues with the top leadership, including Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He will also receive the 'Order of Zayed', the highest civilian decoration conferred by the UAE government.
Apart from Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind also extended wishes to the netizens on Janmashtami. "Greetings and good wishes to fellow citizens on Janmashtami. As we reflect upon the timeless teachings of Lord Krishna, may this be a joyous day full of festivities and celebrations for all of us," Kovind tweeted.

Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami or Gokulashtami is an annual Hindu festival which celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, believed to be the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This year it falls on August 23 and August 24.
While celebrations throughout the country are mesmerising, few places, including Mathura, Gokul and Vrindavan continue to steal the attention on Janmashtami. Lakhs of devotees gather around Vrindavan or in Govardhan and Barsana to worship their beloved deity Lord Krishna. Maharashtra observes the day as Dahi Handi.
