Mob lynching result of BJP’s ‘hate campaign’, says Mamata Banerjee

New Delhi:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who introduced the idea of a federal front against the BJP, on Monday slammed the Centre over the growing incident of mob lynching in the name of cow vigilantism, saying that the saffron party’s ‘hate campaign’ was fanning the flames.

“Rajnath ji condemned it but why only condemn it? They are not controlling their leaders, from upper to lower level it is because of their hatred campaigning it is going on like this. This should be stopped immediately (sic),” ANI quoted Banerjee as saying.

The West Bengal CM said that the BJP call cows ‘Gau Mata’ but their “religious extremism” and “hatred campaigning” were making India a "Hindu Taliban".

“They (BJP leaders) call cows 'Gau Mata' but they have to see that in the name of lynching, in the name of Hindu Taliban...It is due to some extremist religious groups & their hatred campaigning. They have taken law into their own hands and they are lynching the people,” she said.

The scathing attack from Banerjee came after the recent incident of mob lynching on suspicion of cow smuggling in the BJP-ruled Rajasthan’s Alwar district.

On Friday, one Rakbar Khan was lynched by villagers in Lalawandi on suspicion of cow smuggling. The police arrived at the spot minutes before 1 am in the night and took three hours to take him to the hospital some five km away.

The police officers allegedly beat the victim and even took a tea break before taking him to a nearby community health centre at 4 am. Khan was declared brought dead by the doctors.
