Mumbai witnesses heavy rainfall: Water logging, traffic jam reported in Dadar and Palghar

Heavy rainfall across the Mumbai city continued on the third day, resulted in water logging on the streets and traffic was slow from early Monday morning.

In the meantime, the weather department has predicted heavy rains for the next two days. According to Skymet, rains in Mumbai have been very intense since last night. In the past 6 hours, between 11.30 pm last night to 5.30 am today, the city witnessed 63 mm of rain.

"The commercial capital Mumbai is at serious risk of flooding between July 3 and July 5. Close to 200 mm or more rain/ day is going to batter the city during this period, which could hamper normal life in the city. July also looks extremely promising for Mumbai after good rains were observed in the month of June," a SkyMet report said.

Due to heavy rain, Mumbai-Pune train services have been affected after a goods train derailed in the ghat section on Karjat-Lonavala stretch. Some trains have been cancelled, diverted and short terminated. Even as local trains are running with minor delays. There are also reports of waterlogging and traffic jams in some areas like Parel, Govandi and Dadar. On the Western line, waterlogging reported on tracks at Palghar due to incessant rains, led to the cancellation of some trains.

On June 28, at least three persons were killed and five injured in rain-related incidents in Mumbai, which was lashed by the first spell of heavy rains this monsoon that marked its most delayed arrival in the city in 45 years. The deceased were identified as Kashima Yudiyar (60), a resident of Andheri, Rajendra Yadav (60) and Sanjay Yadav (24) — both from Goregaon.
