Narendra Modi, Mamata Banerjee pay tribute to Indira Gandhi on her 100th birth anniversary

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday has paid tributes to former prime minister Indira Gandhi on her 100th birth anniversary.

Modi took to micro-blogging site Twitter and wrote, "Tributes to former PM Mrs. Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary."

On this auspicious occasion, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also remembered the first woman Prime Minister of India and paid homage to her.

"Remembering former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 100th birth anniversary," Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle on Sunday.

Earlier, this morning former PM Manmohan Singh and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi have also been seen paying tribute to Gandhi.

She can never be erased from the pages of history, said former President Pranab Mukherjee on the occasion.

Indira Gandhi was born on November 19, 1917, and was the second longest-serving Prime Minister after her father Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. She held the Prime Minister's office from January 1966 to March 1977 and from January 14, 1980, till her death in 1984.
