Kutch:

A newly-wed Pakistani couple, facing stiff opposition from locals in their village after their love marriage, crossed over to India near here in Gujarat but was deported by security forces after interrogation.

Abdullah (28) and Zareen (25), natives of Dhar village in Pakistan's Badin district, entered Indian territory after crossing the border near Vighakot last evening, a BSF official said.

They were apprehended by BSF personnel. During interrogation, it was revealed that the couple, who had a love marriage, faced constant harassment from villagers and relatives as they were not happy with the alliance.

Fed up with the hostile attitude of the villagers and their kin, the duo decided to take refuge in India, he said.

Zareen, daughter of Dhar Sarpanch, reportedly went against the wishes of her family and married Abdullah a few months ago, inviting displeasure of her kin, the official said.

Since the couple, during questioning, was found to be innocent and nothing objectionable was recovered from them, they were handed over to the Pakistani Rangers this afternoon, he added.
