New Delhi:
A foreign documentary on Nirbhaya case rocked the Parliament on Wednesday urging the Home Minister Rajnath Singh to make a statement in the Upper House.
Addressing the Rajya Sabha, Rajnath Singh said, “Permission was secured for research by the foreign team.”
Elaborating the conditions, he said, “Permission for the documentary was only given on 4 conditions. First, the permission of jail authorities before it was shown. Other conditions included written permission of the prisoner. Tihar jail authorities had also asked Leslee Udwin to desist from showing it”
Now, the government has obtained a restraining order on broadcasting of film.
“I was personally hurt by this, spoke to authorities; have made sure that all steps are taken to stop broadcast,” Rajnath Singh said on Nirbhaya documentary.
Meanwhile, Opposition did not fall prey to Home Minister’s clarification and asked what Modi government is doing to ensure speedy justice.
Samajwadi Party candidate Jaya Bachchan said, “I don’t want any more assurances, I want to know what actions are being taken.”
Ambika Soni from Congress also questioned, “How those people got the permission to shoot the documentary.”
Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (MoS, I&B) said, “This entire documentary is against the programming code of I & B ministry. Airing of documentary would be contempt of court, broadcasting would be against I & B broadcast code.”
