An Uttar Pradesh court on Saturday issued non-bailable warrant against veteran actor and BJP leader Jaya Prada over violation of model code of conduct last year during Lok Sabha elections. The court has set April 20 as next date of hearing. The BJP leader had unsuccessfully contested general elections against Samajwadi Party's Azam Khan from the Rampur parliamentary constituency.
Following the verdict, Jaya Prada had challenged Azam Khan’s win. In her petition, the actor-turned-politician also accused him of involving in corrupt practice for winning the election. The petition was filed in the Allahabad High Court.
Jaya Prada had also filed a case against Azam Khan for his 'derogatory remarks' made in the run-up to Lok Sabha Elections 2019. "I brought her (Jaya Prada) to Rampur. You are a witness that I did not allow anyone to touch her body. It took you 17 years to identify her real face but I got to know in 17 days that she wears khaki underwear," Khan, in a public rally, had said during election campaigns in April last year.
