Lucknow:

Facing flak over “deteriorating” law and order in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today sought to deflect the criticism, saying that though his government has worked on this front but it “does not find enough media coverage.”

“Whenever any incident (pertaining to law and order) has taken place, we have acted with promptness. It is, however, different that the punishment and government’s action do not find enough media coverage,” Yadav said.

He said that his government has worked for checking criminal incidents in the state besides working for development.

“I want to assure you that while we have worked on development on one hand, we have also worked on the law and order front and would continue to do so,” Yadav said while replying on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address in the Assembly.Attacking the Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya’s contention that works of the government were not visible anywhere, the Chief Minister said those who cannot see development must have had their eyes closed.

The Chief Minister, while presenting the details of the works done in the areas of environment, roads, medical, education among other sectors, said his government has worked without any discrimination, unlike the previous BSP government as it was the people’s interest which was supreme for him.

“It will be the people who will judge as to whose government has performed better,” he said.

Referring to his earlier move of granting Rs 20 lakh to Legislators from their area development fund for buying vehicles which was later withdrawn following criticism by the Opposition, Yadav said it were the BJP members who had opposed the move the most.

“But now costlier things have come out...things which are worth crores are also being talked about,” he said.
