In reaction to Home Minister Amit Shah's statement on Hindi Diwas to emphasise the usage of Hindi, DMK president MK Stalin described it as 'jolt' and said that it will affect the unity of the country. He further demanded Home Minister Shah to take his statement back. "Day after tomorrow we will be holding our executive party meeting where the issue will be taken up further", added Stalin.

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi also reacted by saying that Hindi is not the mother tongue of every Indian, he tweeted-

JD(S) spokesperson Tanvir Ahmed told News Nation, "Amit Shah's statement is suggestive of the fact that he does not know much about India." He also demanded Home Minister Amit Shah to take his statement back. 

Earlier, Amit Shah stressed how Hindi language has been a unifying force in India and said that the country needs a language which can represent India in the world. appealed the nation to increase the usage of Hindi. 

However, the draft of the new educational policy 2019 faced opposition as it has the provision of making Hindi language mandatory in all schools. In Tamil Nadu, the anti-Hindi protests were spearheaded by AIADMK and DMK.

Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had also protested against govt's draft saying, "Every state has special a special character and special language". The then CM of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy had also opposed the clause making Hindi as compulsory in all the schools.
