Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday praised Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for his bold confession on the prevailing situation of joblessness in the country.
In a tweet, the Congress president wrote, “Excellent question Gadkari Ji. Every Indian is asking the same question. #WhereAreTheJobs.”
The tweet was in response to Gadkari’s remarks on Maratha quota stir. While speaking to reporters on the issue, Gadkari, a powerful Modi government minister had said that even if the reservation in jobs is given to the community, it will not serve the purpose since there are no jobs in India.
"Let's us assume the reservation is given. But there are no jobs. Because in banks, the jobs have shrunk because of IT. The government recruitment is frozen. Where are the jobs?" the former BJP president had said.
The confession by the minister came as a big embarrassment for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who often pats his own back for the “rapid increase” in the country’s economy and employment even as several reports suggested a completely opposite situation to his claims.
On the other hand, the statement of Modi’s own cabinet minister supported the Congress president’s claims of joblessness in the country.
The Gandhi scion has been raising the issue of unemployment in the country for some time to score political points against the Narendra Modi government.
