One person was killed and 15 others injured in a grenade attack by unknown miscreants at a busy market in Bokolia town in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Wednesday.

"A young man, Sanjib Boro, died after being injured in the grenade attack. Suspected members of the Karbi People's Liberation Tigers (KPLT) hurled grenades at the busy market this evening," Additional Superintendent of Police, Sadak Ali Ahmed, said.

The attackers came on a motorcycle and fled after the strike, which took place at around 6.40 P.M., he said.

The injured have been admitted to a local hospital where the condition of one of them is said to be critical. A child was also injured in the attack, police added.

Apart from KPLT militants, insurgents belonging to the anti-talks faction of ULFA, too, are active in the area, Ahmed said.
