New Delhi:

To check escalating onion prices, Delhi Chief Minister and Sheila Dikshit will meet Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Food Minister K V Thomas on Thursday. The meeting will focus on ways to improve onion supplies and control prices in the national capital.

Pawar will later meet Thomas separately on this issue. It is likely that finance and commerce ministers might join the meeting to finalise measures to ward off rising onion inflation, sources said.

"Delhi Chief Minister is meeting two Union Ministers tomorrow to discuss the onion issue. A separate meeting has been fixed with Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Food and Consumer Affairs Minister tomorrow on onion issue," according to a source.

“Due to unprecedented rains and hoardings, the onion prices have increased,” Delhi CM had said on Tuesday.

Earlier, Pawar in Bangalore said, "...next two to three weeks will be tough and ultimately we have to find a solution."

On the other side Central Minister for Commerce Anand Sharma alleged the government and said, “The government is trying to balance the production of onion to bring down the price of onion and the unprecedented rain had just added to the problem.”

It is worth mentioning that the price of onion is ranging between Rs 80-100 per kilogram presently in the market and they are expected to rise in near future.
