New Delhi:

India on Friday summoned Pakistan deputy high commissioner and sought clarification from him after Islamabad appointed Khalistani separatists in a committee on Kartarpur Corridor, news agency PTI reported citing sources. A statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that it has been conveyed to the Paksitani side that the next meeting on the modalities of the corridor can be scheduled at an appropriate time after receiving Pakistan's response. The next round of talks on the proposed corridor between the countries are scheduled to be held on April 2 at Wagah border.

In November last year, Pakistani Prime Minsiter Imran Khan had laid the foundation stone for the Kartarpur corridor that will connect Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan to Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district of Punjab.

Cricketer-turned-politician and Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and two UnionKartarpur Sahib Corridor ministers – Hardeep Puri and Harmsimrat Kaur Badal will also attend the historic event which is being dubbed as a ground-breaking initiative towards ending the enmity between the hostile neighbours India and Pakistan.

The 4-km corridor will facilitate the visit of Sikh pilgrims to the historic shrine of Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib - the final resting place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak. The Kartarpur Sahib Gurudwara is visible from the Indian side and every year, thousands of Sikhs gather at Dera Baba Nanak shrine for darshan.

Upon the completion of Kartarpur corridor between India and Pakistan, Sikh pilgrims would be allowed to cross the border without any visa to visit the holy shrine and return the same day. However, Pakistan has reportedly laid down several conditions and restricted the per day pilgrims limit to a very small number.
