PM Modi launches Twitter campaign in support of CAA, shares Sadguru's video

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday initiated a Twitter campaign in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act. Taking to Twitter, PM posted, "India Supports CAA because CAA is about giving citizenship to persecuted refugees and not about taking anyone’s citizenship away."

The Prime Minister also shared a video of Sadhguru captioining, "Do hear this lucid explanation of aspects relating to CAA."

After both the houses of Parliament cleared the Citizenship Amendment Bill, it received huge criticism followed by protests. People from Northeast took to roads in a mark of protest against the contentious legislation. The protests at many places turned violent forcing police to launch crackdown against the vandals. The protest led to suspension of internet at several places while section 144 was also imposed to keep situation under control.

The opposition, on the other hand, blamed Modi government for 'misleading' the masses. The Left parties on Thursday announced a seven-day nationwide protest from January 1 to 7 and a general strike on January 8 against the CAA, the National Population Register and the NRC.

Moreover, rallies have also been taken out in support of CAA. In Mumbai, students and social activists held a protest against the CAA and the NRC at the Azad Maidan, while a large number of people gathered for a pro-CAA rally at the historic August Kranti Maidan, where a massive anti-CAA demonstration was held last week.
