New Delhi :

Narendra Modi-led Central government has taken an extra mile to promote ‘socially bold’ step of inter-caste marriages with Dalits by flexing the rules to become eligible for financial incentive.

The NDA government has removed the income cap of Rs 5 lakh per annum for recently married inter-caste couples to avail cash incentive as per ‘Dr Ambedkar scheme for social integration through inter-caste marriage.’

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has decided to discard the condition that only provided financial incentive to newly-wed inter-caste couples whose salary was less than Rs 5 lakh per annum.

The Centre use to give one-time incentive of Rs 2.5 lakhs to inter-caste couples (Dalit bride or bridegroom) whose total annual income did not exceed Rs 5 lakh.

According to the new the directives, there will be no income limit for one to claim incentive under the scheme.

However, the couple will only be eligible for the cash incentive if registered under Hindu marriage act.
