New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday interacted with the scientists involved with 'Mission Shakti' in which India demonstrated anti-satellite missile capability by shooting down a live satellite.

Congratulating the scientists on achieving the rear feat, PM Modi said: "you have given this message to the world ki hum bhi kuch kam nahin hai (you have given this message to the world that we are not less than anyone)."

Addressing the nation after the space mission, the prime minister said India's action was not directed against any country. Shooting down a low earth orbit satellite is a rare achievement for the country, he said. The satellite was orbiting at an altitude of 300 km, he said, describing India as a space power.

"This is a big moment for India, something all of us should be proud of. We are not just capable to defend on land, water and air, but now also in space. I congratulate all scientists who have made this possible and made India a much stronger nation," PM Modi said in his address.

Mission Shakti, which was led by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, was aimed at strengthening India's overall security, he said.

India has become fourth nation in the world after United States, China and Russia to demonstrate anti-satellite missile capability by shooting down a satellite.
