New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that it is very important to restore calm and normalcy in Delhi. The statement from PM Modi comes after the death count in the communal violence over the amended citizenship law mounted to 20 in the national capital.

In a series of tweet, PM Modi said, "Had an extensive review on the situation prevailing in various parts of Delhi. Police and other agencies are working on the ground to ensure peace and normalcy."

"Peace and harmony are central to our ethos. I appeal to my sisters and brothers of Delhi to maintain peace and brotherhood at all times. It is important that there is calm and normalcy is restored at the earliest," he added.

Take a look:

Earlier today, interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah must resign over his failure to control the violence in North-East Delhi that has claimed 20 lives. Addressing media after the Congress Working Committee’s meet, Sonia Gandhi blamed the Centre for the grim, riot-like clashes in the areas of Maujpur, Jaffrabad, Bhajanpura, Gokulpuri among others.

“The situation in Delhi is very tense. Where was Amit Shah and what was he doing while Delhi was burning,” Gandhi asked. She also posed tough questions for Delhi Chief Minster. “Where was Arvind Kejriwal,” asked the interim Congress chief demanding an answer from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government.

Meanwhile, the Delhi police have identified over a dozen people for rioting. According to sources, gangsters from the Sakri Nasir gang and the Chenu gang were involved in the violence. The communal clashes incited in the national capital was a pre-planned conspiracy by the gangs, sources said.
