Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was allowed to meet victims of Sonbhadra killings on Saturday at Chunar fort in Mirzapur, where she has been put under detention after being stopped by the Uttar Pradesh police from visiting Sonbhadra where at least 10 people lost their lives following a clash over possession of the land. Priyanka got emotional after meeting them and later they were moved to a room at the fort where she had a detailed discussion with them.

According to reports, the family members of the Sonbhadra victims were initially not allowed to meet the Congress leader. However, Priyanka alleged that the cops allowed only two relatives to meet her and 15 others were denied permission to come inside the fort.

“Two relatives of victims have come here to meet me, 15 others are not being allowed to meet me. Even I am not being allowed to meet them”, said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra after meeting the families of the victims.

She appealed to media to request the authorities so that they allow her to meet the families.

“The administration should have protected the family of victims…administration should have provided them relief. But I can’t understand the mentality of the administration,” Priyanka said.

Earlier, Priyanka asked if it was a crime to wipe the tears of the families of victims of the Sonebhadra carnage.

"Is it a crime to wipe the tears of these people?" Priyanka tweeted attaching a video of the weeping kin of victims of the Sonebhadra carnage.

At least 10 people, including three women, died and over 24 were injured in a clash between Gond and Gujjar communities over possession of 90 bighas of disputed land in the district's Ghorawal area on Wednesday. The police have arrested 29 people, including the kingpin Yogesh Dutt, in connection with the violence in Sonebhadra. A case has been filed against 78 people.
