While dealing with violent protests in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut after Friday prayers on over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, a top police officer was filmed advising a group of Muslims to go to Pakistan. The video has gone viral on social media that led to a massive controversy.
In a 0.40 minutes video, Akhilesh Narayan Singh, who serves as Superintendent of Police(City) of Meerut, can be seen walking in the city’s narrow lane wearing riot gear. Some other policemen, also in riot gear, are seen walking with him. Eventually, Akhilesh Narayan Singh stops after spotting few Muslim men and said, "Where will you go? I will set this lane right now that you have given me this chance.” After getting a reply from a man saying that they were just offering their Namaz, the SP said, "That's fine. But these black and blue badges you people are wearing, tell them to go to Pakistan.”
Akhilesh Narayan Singh further said, “If you do not want to live here then go away. You come here but you sing praises about somewhere else?” "I will throw every man from every house in jail. I will destroy everyone,” he concluded.

Later speaking to Hindustan Times, Akhilesh Narayan Singh said, “Whatever was heard in the video was his response to a group of protesters who shouted pro-Pakistan slogans and said, ‘Pakistan Zindabad’.” I advised them better go to Pakistan for which they were shouting slogans in support, he added.
He further questioned why they were raising slogans only in support of Pakistan? “I believe anyone who loves his country can’t tolerate such slogans,” the SP stated. According to a report of NDTV, Uttar Pradesh Police have identified around 500 people – with 148 from Meerut alone - who will be asked to pay up for losses incurred during the violent protests.

Recently, UP police confirmed that over 1100 people have been arrested from places across the state in connection with the anti-CAA protests. It is worth mentioning here that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act paves the way to grant citizenship to the minorities that fled from three Muslim-dominated countries due to religious persecution.
