A day after a security breach was reported at Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s residence, her husband Robert Vadra slammed the Modi government saying ‘Security throughout the country is compromised’. Holding the government accountable for failing to safeguard the citizens, especially the women of the country, Vadra said that ‘security of every citizen is the government's responsibility.’
"It's not about the security for Priyanka, my daughter and son or me or the Gandhi family… It's about keeping our citizens especially the women of our country, safe & secure. Security throughout the country is compromised... Girls are being molested/raped, What society are we creating...? Security of every citizen is the Government’s responsibility. If we are not safe in our own country, our homes, not safe on roads, not safe in the day or at night, where and when are we safe?” Vadra said in a Facebook post.
"Giving security is not a fad, it is given on threat perception. 7 people came in that day, asked for selfies. It looked like they were trained to get into houses. When we asked our security officers, blame game started," Vadra said
The post comes a day after a group of people allegedly reached the porch area of Priyanka Gandhi's home in Lutyens’ Delhi on the pretext of getting a photo clicked.
This alleged incident took place following the withdrawal of SPG protection for the Gandhis. The elite Special Protection Group (SPG) cover given to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her children Rahul and Priyanka will be withdrawn and the family will instead be provided Z-plus security by the CRPF.
The decision to withdraw SPG cover given to the family of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated by LTTE terrorists on May 21, 1991, was taken after a detailed security assessment, a senior home ministry official said.
With this decision, the nearly 3,000 strong force will now only be guarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi. An official said security cover for all VIP is reviewed periodically and recommendations are made based on threat perceptions by various security agencies in the country.
