New Delhi:

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday slammed the Narendra Modi-led central government for failing to fulfill its moral responsibility of dealing with the "constitutional and political crisis" facing the country and took a dig at the President's address in Parliament, saying facts gave way to fiction in his speech.

Participating in the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address, the Congress Lok Sabha MP said there was a dearth of solutions and ideas to take India forward and attempts were made to "mask" failures of various schemes launched by the government.

Referring to a host of issues, including Union Budget 2020, anti-CAA protests and airline ban on comedian Kunal Kamra, Tharoor said that the Centre's schemes should be named as "sit-down India, shutdown India and shut-up India".

"Lip service was paid to Skill India, Digital India and Startup India but no mention of Standup India as you are so busy banning stand-up comedians. Government schemes should really be named as sit-down India, shutdown India and shut-up India," the Congress MP from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram said.
