New Delhi :

Disheartened by the formation of BJP government with the help of NCP rebel Ajit Pawar, a Shiv Sena supporter on Saturday attempted suicide in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal, according to news agency ANI. The 45-year-old Sena supporters, identified as Ramesh Balu, hails from Washim district in Maharashtra.

In a head-spinning move, the BJP on early Saturday morning formed government in Maharashtra even as the Shiv Sena, NCP and the Congress announced their alliance to provide a stable government in the state that was under the President’s rule. However, the President’s rule was removed in the wee hours on Saturday and the BJP claimed it has the support of NCP.

Sharad Pawar’s nephew and NCP leader Ajit Pawar extended his support to the BJP government and sworn in as the deputy chief minister along with Devendra Fadnavis, who took oath as the chief minister for the second time.

The government formation by the BJP raised several questions about the role of Governor as the state was under the President’s rule till Friday. To remove the President’s rule, there is a set procedure according to which a Union Cabinet-led by the Prime Minister has to convene and send their recommendation to the President.

The President then approves it and send it to the Governor who then issues the order. After that, the Governor has to invite a majority party. According to the claims made by the BJP, it handed over the Governor letter of support of MLAs from the NCP.

However, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said that his party didn’t support the BJP and will form the government with the Shiv Sena and the Congress. He also removed his nephew Ajit Pawar from the post of NCP’s legislative party leader. The Congress, NCP and the Shiv Sena challenged the government formation in Maharashtra in the Supreme Court and demanded a floor test.

Hearing their plea, the Supreme Court on Sunday asked to produce the letters of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis claiming majority and that of the Governor inviting him to form the government. The top court has given the Fadnavis government deadline till Monday 10:30 am to produce the letters of support of MLAs before.
