Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) secures the India-China border at the eastern state Sikkim. Areas as far as Padamchen and the last post Lungthung are also taken care of by soldiers of SSB. The current border stand-off between Indian and Chinese soldiers over the construction of a road by the latter in Dokalam area near the Bhutan trijunction. China claims Dokalam as a part of its Donglang region.

At present, China and Bhutan are engaged in talks over the resolution of the area. However, Bhutan has no diplomatic ties with China and it is supported militarily and diplomatically by India. Dokalam is also India’s last military post on the trijunction of its boundary with Bhutan and China. China consistently tries to interfere in the northern and eastern sections of Sikkim and India raises obstruction to such actions.

The SSB has increased its vigilance in Sikkim as tensions keep on flaring between India and China. News Nation went to the border region at Sikkim to find out the tough situations that the SSB soldiers live in. The soldiers are given special kinds of homes special clothes and food to help them remain vigilant and counter the tough natural conditions there.

Despite facing the wrath of nature and being in a confrontational situation with the Chinese army, the SSB soldiers don't flash an eyelid. They sing nationalist songs to keep their morale high and their life is highly inspirational.
