Storm and heavy rains hit Delhi and NCR while parts of Bihar and Rajasthan received moderate rainfall on Thursday.
The rain would continue through the night till Friday.
The squall with a wind speed of 61 km per hour hit Delhi at 15.34 pm and continued till 15.36 pm, a MeT department official said.
The Safdarjung Observatory, the recording of which is considered official figures for the city, received 34.2 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, the official said.
Lodhi Road and Palam areas recorded 39.2 mm and 4.6 mm of precipitation during the period, while areas under Ridge received traces of rainfall.
The city’s temperature recorded a high of 37 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season’s average, while the minimum temperature settled at 28.6 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal, the official said.
The humidity level oscillated between 54 and 90 per cent.
“The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 37 and 36 degrees respectively,” the weatherman said.
On Wednesday, the maximum and minimum temperatures settled at 36.7 and 23.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
Rainfall in Patna
Parts of Bihar received light to moderate rainfall on Thursday.
Spells of rain or thundershower may occur on Friday in Patna and other cities, the Met department forecast said.
Patna recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 38.3 degree Celsius, followed by Bhagalpur 36.7, Gaya 35.3 and Purnea 34.8 degree Celsius, according to the MeT.
Gaya and Purnea received 31.2 mm and 18.7 mm of rainfall respectively in the past 24 hours (from 8:30 am on Wednesday to 8:30 am on Thursday), it said.
Heavy rainfall occurred at two places at Galgalia and Thakurganj (both in Kishanganj district) which recorded 17 cm and 6 cm.
Rainfall in Rajasthan
Light to moderate rainfall was recorded at a few places in Rajasthan and heavy rainfall was recorded in Udaipur division on Thursday.
Udaipur and Dungarpur recorded 7cm rainfall, 6cm in Pratapgarh and various places recorded 1 to 5cm rainfall in the last 24 hours, the MeT forecast said.
Kota recorded 12mm rainfall whereas Churu recorded 1.7mm.
Most of the places recorded maximum temperature between 31 and 39 degrees Celsius.
The MeT has forecast light to moderate rainfall in the next 24 hours.
