New Delhi:
Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking to declare Members of Parliaments (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA) as public servants and prevent them from practising as lawyers in courts.
In September 2018, Supreme Court had also dismissed a petition seeking ban on the legal practice of MPs, MLAs and MLCs who are legal professionals. It had said at that time that the legislators could not be banned from practising as lawyers in courts. The Supreme Court had said that no law debars the MPs, MLAs and MLCs from practising in court.
Supreme Court also dismissed the PIL filed by one Dr. AM Krishna seeking its direction to increase the retirement age of all state High Courts judges to 65 years from the present 62 years.
In another matter, the top court dismissed a plea filed by RK Yadav, former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer, seeking to waive off Rs 50,000 fine imposed on him earlier by Court for his PIL for creating two additional Parliament constituencies in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
