Top Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Munna Lahori is among two terrorists gunned down in by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district. According to police, the encounter broke out after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area following specific inputs about the presence of terrorists. As the forces zeroed the suspected spot the hiding terrorists fired upon them triggering an encounter.

“In the ensuing encounter, 02 militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter,” a police spokesman in a statement said.

Munna Lahori, a Pakistani national, was responsible for a series of civilian killings in Kashmir, they said. The second militant, an associate of Lahori, was a local militant, a police official said.

Lahori, also known as Bihari, had been used by Pakistan-based JeM terror group for the recruitment of militants, he said.

“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter,” he added.

“Citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” the statement reads.

Earlier on July 17, an unidentified terrorists was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Sopore area of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

The encounter between the security forces and terrorists broke out after the law enforcement agencies launched a cordon-and-search operation in Sopore, based on credible inputs about the presence of ultras in the area, a police spokesperson said.
