In a move to bring respite to senior citizens in the country, Indian Bank Association on Friday announced that only senior citizens will be allowed in the banks to exchange old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.

In a move to bring respite to senior citizens in the country, Indian Bank Association on Friday announced that only senior citizens will be allowed in the banks to exchange old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. Except for senior citizens, no other person will be allowed to exchange old notes on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has condemned the attack saying, "I strongly condemn this attack, the perpetrators will be punished. Have directed officials to go to Tinsukia."

The Income Tax department has started to send notices to people on excess cash deposits at banks post demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denomination currency notes. The notices are sent on account of income mismatch with the cash deposits at the banks.
