In a tragic turn of events, 11 people were killed after a boat capsized during Ganpati Visarjan at Bhopal’s Khatlapura Ghat during early morning hours on Friday. According to early reports, there were 19 people on the boat. Out of these, five persons have been rescued, News Nation has learnt. Authorities have launched mega rescue mission to search for the missing individuals. Though this is first such incident in Madhya Pradesh, similar drownings during idol immersion were reported from Maharashtra on Thursday. As many as 12 persons drowned during immersion of Ganesh idols in Maharashtra. Two persons drowned in Nashik district, while three others were rescued, police said. Another person was missing.

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc  havoc in Madhya Pradesh. For last few days, the eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh have been recording light rainfall activities. In fact, the last 24 hours were no different and a few parts of the state continued to observe light to moderate Monsoon showers. However, the remaining parts of the state have not been observing a good amount of rainfall activity. Skymet had predicted that rains will start reducing over Madhya Pradesh after September 13. However, the weather will not go completely dry. Moderate showers might continue over northern districts on September 14 and 15 as well.

On September 12, a teenage boy on Thursday drowned in a swollen nullah near here in Madhya Pradesh, which is being lashed by rains for the last couple for days, said an official. The drowning incident took place in a village under the Berasia police station area of Bhopal district. The body of the 16-year-old boy was recovered from the nullah at Imaliyanarand village, some 40km from district headquarters, Berasia police inspector SN Pandey told PTI.

The deceased has been identified as Sumit Mana, he said, adding why he went to the water body is being investigated. It is possible he slipped and fell into the nullah or met with watery grave while crossing it, Pandey said. "We have registered a case and investigating the matter, he added. The state capital and most parts of the state are receiving showers for the last couple of days.
